01 / 07 Preparation

It starts underneath.

"The waterproofing system is only as good as the preparation underneath it."

Marty's waterproofing tips, June 2026

Strip it back to the slab. Clean, sound, dry, and free from dust, contaminants and loose material.

02 / 07 Falls

Water has to go somewhere.

Adequate falls towards the drainage points come first. Waterproofing won't fix poor drainage.

Watch the drop: the screed carries it straight to the floor waste. No ponding.

03 / 07 Prime

The right primer for the substrate.

Priming the surface sets up strong adhesion and long-lasting performance, matched to the substrate and the system going on top.

04 / 07 Reinforce

Corners, joints and penetrations first.

Bond breakers and reinforcement go to every corner, joint, penetration and movement area. That is where water gets in.

On our recent balconies: a self-adhesive butyl rubber sheet membrane, with every seam and edge striped in blue.

05 / 07 Two coats

Electric blue. Twice.

Two coats of ACTFLEX 906, a water-based polyurethane membrane. The second goes on once the first has cured, at the thickness compliance asks for.

How we waterproof balconies

06 / 07 Tiles, then rain

Watertight today. Watertight tomorrow.

The tiles go on and nobody sees our work again. That's the point. Let it rain.

"You'll never see their work once it's done, but you'll damn sure notice if it wasn't."

07 / 07 Below the water table

Where most people won't go.

Most people avoid working below the water table. We built a reputation there: retaining and basement walls, membrane on the wet side, drainage at the footing, and a dry side that stays dry.

Marty, owner and waterproofing technician at SCW, in an orange Forspec shirt and cap

Introducing Marty

Over 20 years on the tools.

Marty (Martin Mackey) is the owner, founder and waterproofing technician behind SCW. He has spent over 20 years in the trade, across residential, commercial, remedial and strata work.

He is known for diagnosing complex water intrusion, for meticulous work, and for communicating clearly with construction teams, on commercial jobs, residential complexes and industrial projects.

The waterproofing system is only as good as the preparation underneath it.

Marty's tip

What we waterproof

Done once. Done right.

Balconies, wet areas, screed, walls and the leaks nobody else got to the bottom of.

  1. Balconies Primer, reinforced angles, then two coats of ACTFLEX 906, or sheet membrane under it. Done in the order that keeps water out.
  2. Bathrooms and wet areas Showers, bathrooms, laundries and upstairs WCs, membraned floor, walls, corners and joints, and left inspection ready.
  3. Tops of screed The extra layer on top of the screed that creates falls to the floor waste, ends ponding and protects against moisture.
  4. Retaining and basement walls Most people avoid working below the water table. We built a reputation there, with cementitious ACTFLEX 988 and 989.
  5. Leak repairs and remedial Leaking showers and waterproofing that was never done properly. We step in and fix the mess.

Watertight today.

Watertight tomorrow.

Watertight for years to come.

What customers say

In their words.

Marty was absolutely amazing to work with and his waterproofing is a thing of beauty.

After having problems with some very dodgy work done by tilers claiming to be waterproofers, we wanted an expert for the 5 wet areas in our new house build. Marty did not disappoint.

He was great to deal with, responsive, quick, friendly and helpful. His work is immaculate. I have full confidence that we'll never have a single issue. It is very clear that Marty takes great pride in his work.

100% recommend Marty and SCW South Coast Waterproofing.

5 Stars. Outstanding Work!

We recently had South Coast Waterproofing complete waterproofing on two of our properties, including eight bathrooms and multiple balconies, and I can confidently say the quality of work was exceptional. From start to finish, the team was professional, reliable, and extremely thorough.

They took the time to explain the process, used top-quality materials, and ensured everything was completed to the highest standard. The attention to detail and care they showed on both jobs really stood out. It’s clear they take pride in their work.

We’ve had zero issues since the work was done, and I now have total peace of mind knowing everything has been properly sealed and protected. Highly recommend South Coast Waterproofing if you’re looking for skilled, honest, and dependable professionals.

Thanks again for a job very well done!
